An enchanting beach that is also motorable, Thalassery beach will provide you with an experience that will linger long in your memory. We visited the beach months ago; still the memory of the walk along the curving beach, quiet and unspoilt, remain fresh in my mind.
Thalassery is a small town in North Malabar, 70 kilometers to the north of Kozhikode where the renowned explorer Vasco da Gama landed in 1498 in search of direct access to Kerala's spices.
We had booked a room in a small resort just off the beach. The room provided a panoramic view of the beach and you could sit in the balcony listening to the waves and watching the sun going down the sea. We sat there late into the night enjoying spicy fish and cans of beer.
Early next morning, we were at the beach. One person was busy at the beach picking edible clams that the sea had deposited on the shore during the night. A few people were walking or jogging along the long curving beach.
We sat there on the wet beach enjoying the transcendent beauty all around - the sea receding into the horizon, the curving beach and the row of coconut trees behind us.
